The actual cost of educating each student at St. Luke Catholic School far exceeds the tuition rates set and paid by our families. To help offset the actual per pupil cost of education, the community supports and participates in the following giving opportunities.
Annual Appeal:
Each year, our “Miracles in Motion” campaign helps to fund student financial assistance and growth in the Foundation. School families, parishioners, parents, staff, and friends demonstrate their commitment to Catholic education by supporting this campaign.
Our appeal for 2020 is currently underway. Our goal is to raise funds to meet two matching grants. The Joe Weston, Portland area philanthropist, will match $30,000 for student tuition assistance and $40,000 to the St Luke School Foundation. Please help us reach our goal and continue the legacy of Catholic education started 117 years ago. Thank you!
Foundation:
To ensure the longevity of the school, The St. Luke School Foundation was established in 1980. Since that time, $1,000,000 has been contributed to this fund. Earnings from these gifts provide an ongoing source of revenue for the school. Important milestones follow:
- Founded in 1980 with a $5,000 gift from the St. Luke Parent’s Club
- $1,000,000 in additional contributions through 2020
- $800,000 in investment earnings distributed to the school
- 2020 commitment to school operations: $60,000
A significant catalyst for growth in the Foundation in recent years is due in large measure to challenge grants made available by Joe Weston, Portland area philanthropist. To date Mr. Weston has contributed $225,000 in matching funds. This year’s challenge is $40,000.
The St. Luke School Foundation also makes available special Endowed fund opportunities. A gift of $25,000 enables a donor to name a fund, endowed for a specific purpose. While many of our endowed funds are directed by the donor to need-based tuition assistance, the Foundation also encourages gifts intended to support specific academic programs or long-term projects that are core to the St. Luke mission, curriculum, and strategic plan. Please contact the principal for more specifics on this program.
Auction
Our annual auction is always the first Saturday in March, and is much anticipated and enjoyed by all friends of St. Luke. Organized and hosted entirely by the parent community, the evening includes a silent auction and a live dinner auction. The night is known for its excellent food, exciting bidding, and unbeatable company! Please visit our auction page for additional details on this year’s auction.
Raffle
One of the featured auction activities is the raffle, with prizes varying from year to year. Each family sells at least 10 raffle tickets leading up to the auction, and winners are announced at the beginning of the night.
Jog-A-Thon
In the spring, students look forward to our annual Jog-A-Thon. All funds raised during this event pay for school events, with the majority of the funds used for field trips that enhance in-class themes. Field trips make the curriculum relevant and meaningful to students and include class trips such as the 4th grade overnight and 6th grade Outdoor School.
